The European Space Agency (ESA) is a member of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS). In cooperation with other space agencies and international organisations, ESA contributes to the development of compatible data products, formats, services, applications and policies, for the benefits of the international user community.
CEOS currently has three standing working groups:
- Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS)
WGISS has the goal of coordinating and standardising EO data management and services, addressing the needs of: data providers by assisting them to improve the efficiency of their operations and maximising the utilisation and benefit of the EO data which they gather; and data and information users by providing simpler and wider access to the resources which they acquire.
- Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV)
WGCV ensures the quality, accuracy and long-term confidence in EO data products the Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) provides a focus for co-ordination and co-operation in activities related to calibration and validation (cal-val) of Earth observations.
- Working Group on Education, Training, and Capacity Building (WGEdu)
WGEdu goal is to facilitate activities that enhance international education and training in Earth Observation (EO) techniques, data analysis, interpretation and applications.
ESA currently holds the WGISS vice-chair and the lead contact for the Interoperable Catalog System (ICS) Task Team.
